
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to honour the Indian Armed Forces during the IPL 2025 closing ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3. This gesture follows the successful Operation Sindoor, where Indian forces destroyed several terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed to the Hindustan Times that the finale of IPL 2025 will serve as a tribute to the nation’s armed forces. “Yes, the IPL 2025 closing ceremony will honour the Indian Armed Forces,” he stated.
Reliable sources have also indicated that invitations for the event have been extended to key military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.
“We are grateful for the constant bravery, courage and service of our armed forces. We want to give a special tribute to honour their efforts under Operation Sindoor. The IPL 2025 closing ceremony will be a tribute to the Armed Forces,” sources privy to developments told Hindustan Times.
“We have already sent out invitations to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Navy Staff and the Chief of Air Staff,” he added.
The closing ceremony is expected to include a performance by military bands, adding a patriotic touch to the event. Additionally, the BCCI is likely to enlist the participation of well-known singers to deliver a musical evening before the IPL 2025 grand finale.
IPL 2025 Resumes After Week-Long Pause Amid Border Tensions
The IPL 2025 season was paused for a week due to rising India-Pakistan tensions after a terror attack in Pahalgam killed 26 tourists. It resumed following a ceasefire. As a tribute, players sang the national anthem before matches and stadiums displayed “Thank you, armed forces.”
BCCI had similarly honoured the military in 2019, including a Rs. 20 crore donation after the Pulwama attack.bAs for the IPL 2025 playoffs, Qualifier 1 will be held on May 29 in Mullanpur, followed by the Eliminator on May 30 at the same location. Qualifier 2 is scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Punjab Kings have booked their spot in Qualifier 1 after beating Mumbai Indians in Jaipur. This result confirmed Mumbai Indians’ place in the Eliminator. If Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeat Lucknow Super Kings on Tuesday, they will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1. If they lose, Gujarat Titans will face Shreyas Iyer’s team on May 29.
