Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spin bowling coach Malolan Rangarajan has countered the criticism-leveling remarks, pointing at the threatened comparison to England’s men’s football side, which has also failed to meet expectations. Outcomes, according to him, matter more than expectations. The Royal Challengers are firmly poised to take one of the top two spots in the IPL 2025 points table, which they could use to grab a big advantage coming into the playoffs.
A win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Lucknow on Tuesday would also seal a qualifier spot for RCB and give them a double chance to make it to the IPL final. A victory would see RCB end the season with 19 points gained from nine wins, four losses, and one no-result match. With so much on the line, this would be a massive boost for RCB in helping them lift the trophy this season.

Malolan Rangarajan, spin bowling coach at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has negated criticisms over the franchise’s title drought and those made in comparison to the underperforming England men’s football team. Speaking ahead of RCB’s final IPL 2025 group match against Lucknow Super Giants, Rangarajan insisted that the past of the franchise does not fold on to the current team, which, in his opinion, is much more cohesive and focused than any team that has gone before it.
“England had won the FIFA World Cup in 1966, but yes it is true that we have not won the IPL title,” Rangarajan said.
“And we are doing what we can to ensure we become a more consistent and better team. If you look at the last five to six years, RCB has become a more consistent franchise. Whatever people used to say, I don’t know if it is true or not, but people used to say that our batting was very good and bowling not so much,” he added.
