Rishabh Pant, captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), faced a barrage of criticism on social media during the team’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (April 22) in Lucknow. The controversy began when Pant chose to bat at No. 7 and got out for a duck, which led to strong fan reactions.
After winning the toss, DC opted to bowl first. LSG started well, with openers Aiden Markram (52) and Mitchell Marsh (45) laying a solid foundation. However, star batter Nicholas Pooran (9) failed to build on the momentum. In an unexpected move, LSG sent Abdul Samad at No. 4, Pant’s usual spot in the order.
Samad managed just 2 runs, leaving LSG at 107/3 in the 14th over. Ayush Badoni (36) stepped up with a crucial knock, supported by David Miller (14*). But in a surprising twist, Pant walked out at No. 7 and was bowled for a second-ball duck in the final over, leaving fans stunned.
As a result, LSG ended their innings at 159/6, with Mukesh Kumar claiming four wickets for Delhi Capitals. Pant faced backlash from fans for dropping down the batting order and then getting out without scoring.

Never seen Rishabh Pant this angry after getting out—LSG management literally killed his confidence. Frustrating to watch, a match-winner for India struggling to make the top 6 for his IPL side. Sad to see this.💔#RishabhPant #DCvsLSG #LSGvDC pic.twitter.com/sMMmSVlaW7

Rishabh Pant sent Samad, Miller & Badoni ahead of himself against his ex DC, man you are getting 27 crores so please come on the pitch instead of hiding behind others!!
Even 44 years old MS Dhoni still winning games for CSK & just taking 4 crores not 27!pic.twitter.com/1M4qX7VtnR

Rishabh Pant is mocking his own reputation and value. This isn’t the Pant we’ve known for years.
He was never meant for the limited overs game , I’m accepting this today. It’s okay if you’re not scoring runs but don’t be a coward bro.😔 pic.twitter.com/OSxUB33cWX

I think we all can agree, Rishabh Pant, the white ball player, is below par, to say the least! But I fear his stint with LSG is gonna shatter his confidence into pieces! That goody-two-shoes Goenka is always on his face every match. How suffocating!#RishabhPant #LSGvsDC

Pant’s Rare Batting Position Switch Backfires in LSG vs DC Clash
Rishabh Pant drew criticism from fans for his unexpected batting position during the LSG vs DC match. The reaction seemed warranted, as it’s rare to see Pant bat so low in the order during an IPL game.
Back in his debut season in 2016, Pant batted at No. 7 and No. 8 once each. Since then, he has mostly occupied the No. 4 or No. 5 spot. At No. 4 alone, he has played 63 innings, scoring 1,975 runs at an average of 35.25 and a strike rate of 143.77.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to play their next match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The game will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
