IPL 2025: Ishant Sharma Fined 25% Of Match Fee For Code Of Conduct Breach In SRH vs GT Clash

Gujarat Titans (GT) veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the game against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, April 6. In addition to the fine, he has received a demerit point.

Sharma is the second player penalized this IPL season after LSG’s Digvesh Rathi, who was fined twice for his ‘notebook’ celebration. Though details of Sharma’s offense remain unclear, the IPL confirmed the punishment on April 7 following match referee Javagal Srinath’s ruling.

“Ishant Sharma, Bowler, Gujarat Titans has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday,” the statement read.

“Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement further read.

Ishant Sharma has built a controversial disciplinary record over the years, facing multiple fines for on-field altercations. Notable incidents include fines during the 2017 Colombo Test vs Sri Lanka, the 2018 Birmingham Test vs England, and a clash with Kamran Akmal in a 2012 T20I against Pakistan.

Ishant Sharma ended with bowling figures of 0 for 53 on a slow pitch against SRH in IPL 2025

Ishant Sharma had a rough outing for GT in their seven-wicket win on the road. While the Shubman Gill-led side impressed with the ball—thanks to standout performances from Mohammed Siraj (4/17) and Sai Kishore (2/24)—Ishant’s four-over spell was costly, leaking 53 runs without taking a wicket.

His economy rate of 13.25 was the highest among GT bowlers, with Rashid Khan being the next most expensive at 7.75 runs per over. Initially not part of the starting XI, Ishant replaced Arshad Khan after the season opener and has remained in the lineup.

Though he was also expensive against RCB, conceding 27 runs in two overs, he did manage to dismiss Rajat Patidar in that match.
