Kolkata Knight Riders’ victory over Delhi Capitals has added a fresh twist to the IPL 2025 playoff battle. While KKR’s win has boosted their chances, it also reopened the race for all 10 teams. Despite their recent inconsistency, KKR still have four games left and must win at least three to remain strong contenders.
Delhi Capitals, who started the season impressively, have now lost four of their last six matches and need to win at least two of their remaining four to stay in the top 4. Their defeat to KKR means more permutations now exist for all teams, with each result influencing the final standings.
Current Leaders and Strong Contenders
Royal Challengers Bengaluru lead the points table with 14 points. They need just two wins from four games to secure a playoff spot and remain in the hunt for a top-2 finish. Mumbai Indians, with 6 wins in 10 matches, are riding high after five consecutive victories.
If they win two of their remaining four games, they are likely to qualify. Gujarat Titans have also been consistent, with 6 wins in 9 games. They need just two more wins from five games to reach the playoffs. Punjab Kings are in fifth position with 11 points from 9 games and must aim for at least three more wins in their next five to boost their qualification hopes.
Teams Still in Contention or on the Edge
Lucknow Super Giants, despite a mixed season, can still qualify by winning at least three of their last four matches. Rajasthan Royals are hanging by a thread. They must win all remaining games to reach 14 points, and even then, depend on other results to go in their favor.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, once seen as a strong team, cannot afford another loss in their last five matches. Any defeat would end their campaign. As for Chennai Super Kings, their playoff hopes are nearly over. With only two wins in nine matches and a poor Net Run Rate, even five straight wins may not be enough. However, a slight mathematical chance remains.
