Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the team’s loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, May 27. This marks LSG’s third over-rate violation of the season, leading to a ₹30 lakh fine for Pant.
The remaining 11 players in the playing XII, including the Impact Sub, were each fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lower. Despite it being the third offense, Pant avoided a one-match suspension due to a recent rule change introduced in IPL 2025. The match itself was a bittersweet experience for the LSG skipper.
Pant finally found form with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 118 off just 61 balls, including 11 fours and 8 sixes. His explosive innings powered LSG to an imposing total of 227/3 in their final league game, much to the home crowd’s delight.
However, LSG’s bowling unit faltered once again, allowing RCB to chase down the target in just 18.4 overs with six wickets in hand. This defeat marked LSG’s eighth loss in 14 matches—and their sixth in the last eight—leaving them in seventh place on the points table.
Pant Says Inconsistency Cost LSG in IPL 2025
Rishabh Pant attributed Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) underwhelming IPL 2025 campaign to their inability to maintain consistency throughout the full 40 overs of play. While the team’s top-order batters performed well for most of the season, their efforts were often undermined by underwhelming bowling displays and Pant’s own struggles with form.
Despite a brilliant 118* against RCB, Pant had a quiet season, finishing with 269 runs at an average of 24.45 and only two fifties. After the match, he reflected on the loss and the team’s campaign (via Cricbuzz):
“Eventually you got to play 40 overs of good cricket. 20 overs will definitely not save you in a T20 game and that’s been our story. There were a lot of injury concerns before the tournament, that’s something that hurt us going through the season.”
