Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended their five-match losing streak by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 5 wickets on Monday, 14th April, 2025. MS Dhoni was named Player of the Match. Post-match, Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav shared a funny Instagram story featuring Dhoni and Shivam Dube with an imaginary conversation.
The Mumbai Indians batter referenced a dialogue from MS Dhoni‘s biopic, ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story,’ starring Sushant Singh Rajput, to explain the match situation. The scene in the film occurs during an inter-school tournament when Dhoni is batting in the middle of a run chase. Suryakumar Yadav replaced the characters with the real-life Dhoni and Shivam Dube.

(Dhoni – Will win the match if I give you the strike? Dube – I will try. Dhoni – I can also try then. You just don’t get me run out),” read Surya’s Instagram story with photos of Dhoni and Dube.
Dhoni and Dube Shine as CSK End Losing Streak with Thrilling Win Over LSG in IPL 2025
Just like in the movie, Dhoni lived up to expectations in real life, taking charge to end CSK’s losing streak. He and Dube put together an unbroken 57-run partnership off just 27 balls, helping CSK chase down 167 against Lucknow Super Giants with five wickets in hand.
This win was CSK’s second in seven matches in IPL 2025 and their first under Dhoni’s captaincy after Ruturaj’s injury. Coming in at No. 7 with CSK needing 56 off 30 balls, Dhoni quickly found form, hitting Avesh Khan for two boundaries in the 16th over. Dube added a four off Thakur, and Dhoni finished with a six.
Despite Avesh’s tight 18th over, Dhoni and Dube took advantage of Thakur’s weak 19th over to shift the momentum in CSK’s favor. Dhoni was named Player of the Match for the first time in six years in the IPL, thanks to his quickfire 26 off 11 balls, including four fours and a six. Dube top-scored for CSK with 43 off 37 balls.
