Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) star spinner, Varun Chakaravarthy, has revealed the batters he would love to dismiss in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The 33-year-old has his sights set on some of the biggest names in world cricket, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav. His desire to take the wickets of these elite players highlights his hunger for competing against the best.
Targeting the Best in the Business
When asked about the wickets he values the most, Chakaravarthy named Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Nicholas Pooran, and Suryakumar Yadav. These players are known for their explosive batting, and getting them out would be a significant achievement for any bowler.
“Any batter who is in great form is a prized wicket. Players like Klaasen, Pooran, Kohli, Rohit, and SKY are all star performers, and I would be thrilled to pick their wickets,” Chakaravarthy shared during a special segment on JioHotstar’s ‘Gen Bold’.
With three wickets in two matches so far, Chakaravarthy is eager to improve his tally. His next opportunity to dismiss Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav will come when KKR faces Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. Given his current form, he remains a key weapon for KKR as they aim for another successful season.
Lessons from the Past and a Fresh Start
Coming off an outstanding performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, where he finished as India’s second-highest wicket-taker, Chakaravarthy understands the importance of starting every season from scratch. Despite his past successes, he remains grounded and focused on continual improvement.
“What I have learned is that no matter how great your previous tournament was, you have to reset and start fresh. Cricket teaches you that every game is a new challenge,” he explained.
His ability to handle pressure and stick to his basics has been a key factor in his success. “There’s no need to try something extraordinary. The best thing you can do is keep it simple, execute your skills well, and avoid looking too far ahead,” he added.
Bond with Sunil Narine and KKR’s Bowling Attack
A vital part of KKR’s bowling unit, Chakaravarthy has developed a strong partnership with Sunil Narine over the years. Having played alongside the Caribbean spinner for six seasons, their understanding has grown significantly.
“I don’t need much guidance from him now; I can just observe and learn. However, if I have doubts, I always go to him for advice. He has been the MVP of T20 cricket from the start, and I believe he will be one this season too,” Chakaravarthy said.
