The Delhi Capitals once again produced a clinical performance in IPL 2020. They defeated Rajasthan Royals convincingly at the Sharjah Cricket stadium. Batting first, DC initially struggled to get going. However, in the middle overs, Marcus Stoinis and then Shimron Hetmyer commanded the RR bowlers.
Stoinis maintained his excellent form and scored 39 crucial runs. Whereas Hetmyer teed off from ball one and took the total beyond 180. The destructive southpaw scored 45 in just 24 balls and his knock included 5 massive sixes. Jofra Archer was the pick of the Royals bowlers as he had figures of 24 for 3 in his 4 overs.
Delhi Capitals Win By 46 Runs
The Royals were suspected to chase down a total of 184 at the small Sharjah ground. Unfortunately, their chase never took off and they kept losing wickets at regular interims. Yashaswi Jaiswal scored 34 runs but at a strike rate of under 100, as a result, the required rate kept zooming upwards. Jos Buttler and Steve Smith got starts but were incapable to bat long as DC bowling attack was once again ruthless.
In the end, Rahul Tewatia prolonged the inevitable as he once again scored runs at his beloved ground. The DC spinners Ashwin and Axar Patel were top class as they in the middle overs and kept a check on the scoring rate. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje also continued their good work as they were relentless and bowled hard lengths to the RR batsmen.
Hoping To Maintain Momentum – Shreyas Iyer
Moreover, RR has now lost their last 4 matches in IPL 2020 The red hot Delhi Capitals are now looking one of the strongest sides in the competition and fittingly they are now sitting at the top of IPL table.
Here’s what the winning captain Shreyas Iyer had to say in the post-match presentation
“I’m really happy with the way we came out in the second innings. We thought it was an under par score but it was stopping on the wicket and the bowlers executed their plans really well. We were also going to bowl first with the dew factor, but thankfully it went in our favour. I am enjoying captaincy because the players make it really easy, especially the bowlers,” Shreyas Iyer said.
“Even the way the support staff is managing the team meetings is commendable. I think the mixture in our team is really good and we have worked really hard on this. The boys have shared their thoughts pre-tour and their strengths and weaknesses.
I am happy with how we are progressing and hoping to maintain the momentum. We can’t take anything lightly and need to come with our plans, execute them well,” Shreyas Iyer said post the victory.
