Throughout the current season, Kohli has often played a supporting role, allowing captain Rajat Patidar to take the lead when needed. He mentioned that similar moments occurred during the ICC Champions Trophy, where he let Shreyas Iyer take control of the innings without hesitation. Kohli explained that if he was in rhythm, he would take charge, but if someone else was better placed, he would let them lead.
He stressed that it was never about trying to prove anything or overshadow teammates. His focus has always been on reading the match situation and acting accordingly. Virat Kohli said he takes pride in playing according to what the moment demands and has never allowed personal ambitions to get in the way of team success.

Kohli also spoke about his early days in the RCB dressing room, sharing how being around legends like Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis made him realize he had a long way to go. In his first few years, he didn’t get many chances to bat higher up the order, which made it difficult for him to make a big impact.
However, in the 2009 season, he began to feel more confident as the pitches suited his style of play. From 2010, his performances became more consistent, and by 2011, he was regularly batting at number three. That period marked the true beginning of his IPL journey, built on patience, learning, and continuous improvement.
