Former India opener Aakash Chopra has given his views on the likely appointment of Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian Men’s team. Rahul finally applied for the role on Tuesday after several reports of “reluctance” from his side.
Chopra believes that if Dravid joins the team, he will come with a long term vision for the unit. “With Rahul Dravid, I see a blueprint for the next five years. He’s not going to come with a short-term vision but he’ll come with a blueprint for Indian cricket for the next five or ten years”, Chopra said in a video uploaded on his Youtube channel.
In the past few years, Rahul Dravid has done extensive work with young cricketers at the U-19 and India A levels. Even current and former cricketers from other nations have said that the talent pool which has developed in India, has been all because of Rahul’s efforts.
If it’s true Rahul Dravid is to be the next Indian coach I think the rest of the world better beware … !

“We can see a pair of ‘R’ and ‘R’- Aakash Chopra
Chopra said that if Rahul Dravid has applied for the post of head coach, then BCCI will not look for any other candidate. “It’s a race where no other coach can win. The moment Rahul Dravid has put his name, others’ applications are already redundant,” Chopra stated.
The 44-year old further added that he is excited to see how Rahul coordinates with Virat Kohli and also Rohit Sharma, who is likely to become India’s T20I captain after the T20 World Cup 2021.
“We can see a pair of ‘R’ and ‘R’ – Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma – for white-ball cricket and Rahul Dravid with Virat Kohli for Test matches. It’s going to be very interesting.”, Chopra said.
