Team India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has confirmed his availability for the upcoming Asia Cup. As reported by The Indian Express, the right-arm pacer recently informed the selectors of his readiness to participate in the marquee tournament.
The 31-year-old appeared in only three out of the five scheduled Tests during India’s England tour, managing his workload due to his susceptibility to injuries. He was rested after the fifth Test had commenced. Bumrah featured in the first Test at Headingley, skipped the second, and then returned for the third and fourth Tests at Lord’s and Old Trafford, respectively.
Across the series, Bumrah bowled a total of 119.4 overs, claiming 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. A source cited by The Indian Express said:
“Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week.”
The Asia Cup 2025 squad, overseen by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, is expected to be announced soon. Scheduled from September 9 to 28, the tournament will be played in the T20 format as teams prepare for next year’s T20 World Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah Sidelined From India’s White-Ball Matches Since June 2024
The Ahmedabad-born pacer has not featured in a white-ball match for India since the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Bridgetown, Barbados. In that thrilling final, Jasprit Bumrah delivered an impressive performance, returning figures of 4-0-18-2, helping India secure a seven-run victory and their second T20 World Cup title.
Earlier this year, he missed the Champions Trophy in the UAE due to a back injury but made a comeback for IPL 2025. India are set to begin their Asia Cup campaign against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai, with the high-profile clash against Pakistan scheduled for September 14 at the same venue.
