Former India skipper MS Dhoni has been one of the greatest cricketers to play the sport in this generation. He has inspired many including his contemporaries including England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler. The Englishman recently recalled the moment when he became an MS Dhoni fan.

Buttler is one of the finest cricketers in the limited-overs game. Be it opening the batting or playing as a finisher, Buttler has done exceedingly well. When it comes to finishing games, Jos Buttler has learned the craft from none other than MS Dhoni.

Jos Buttler recalled when he became MS Dhoni fan

Speaking of his admiration for Dhoni in an interview with the Times of India, Buttler highlighted one of those moments that made he fall in love with the player Dhoni is.

“I like his demeanour on the field. How cool and calm he is. I like his explosive batting, the helicopter shot. I always watched the IPL on TV. I remember some of the great innings he has played. One thing I really love is the 2011 World Cup final. How he walked out to bat and said I am going to see this home. That was inspiring and the way he finished the game with a six. It always resonated with me,” Buttler said.

Incidentally, Jos Buttler recently got a precious gift from MS Dhoni – his No. 7 jersey – during Rajasthan Royals game against Chennai Super Kings. While the Chennai skipper has struggled to get going Buttler has produced a few match-winning performances for Rajasthan.

He played a late cameo of unbeaten 22 runs as Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi on Friday to keep themselves alive in IPL 2020.
