Kevin Pietersen always comes up with different approaches when it comes to the shortest format of the game. The former England batsman believes in thinking outside the box for the game to keep on evolving. Pietersen who is currently working as a commentator in IPL 2021 has suggested a new rule to ICC that they can add in T20Is.

Kevin Pietersen suggests a modern rule to ICC for T20Is

Pietersen believes that the International cricket council (ICC) should introduce a brand new 12 run rule in the shortest format. He added that if a batsman hits a six over 100 metres the teams should be given 12 runs instead of the regular 6 runs.

Kevin Pietersen also affirmed that the England Cricket Board can also introduce it in the new ‘The Hundred’ League’. As expected this tweet of Pietersen has garnered mixed responses on Twitter. Many on Twitter are of the thought that this will further make cricket rules complicating for those who don’t have complete knowledge about the game.

In his defence, Pietersen added another Tweet in which he explained why this new rule will further enhance T20Is.

“The pluses for a 12, for a shot that travels over 100m: 1. No game is really over till it’s over. 2. It adds real excitement. 3. Broadcasters have new equations around the possibilities of 12s being hit. 4. New revenue stream as they can be sponsored”, Pietersen tweeted.

Pietersen made sure he also tagged the official ICC account on Twitter. Now it will be interesting to see whether the governing body contemplates it or not. Talking about the ‘The Hundred’ league it is a tournament where both teams play 100 balls each instead of a 40 over T20 match. The first edition of The Hundred is expected to take place in 2021.

Meanwhile, the focus at the current stage is on the ongoing IPL 2021 tournament. During testing COVID-19 times the BCCI is still managing to conduct the tournament and bring smiles to the faces of everyone. Tonight the fancied RCB side will take on Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad.
