KKR star batter sidelined for rest of IPL 2026 due to concussion and fractured finger

Three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered a big blow, as their in-form wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been ruled out of the rest of IPL 2026. KKR last played on Wednesday, May 20, against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens, where they won the match by four wickets while chasing 148 runs.

During the 11th over of MI’s innings, Raghuvanshi tried to take a catch of Tilak Varma but had a minor collision with Varun Chakaravarthy, and the catch was dropped. He later left the field in the 14th over, with Tejasvi Dahiya replacing him as a concussion substitute.

On May 22, KKR shared an Instagram post confirming that the right-handed batter has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a concussion and a fracture in a finger on his left hand.

“Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been ruled out of 2026 TATA Indian Premier League after sustaining a concussion and a fracture to a finger on his left hand while attempting a catch during Kolkata Knight Riders’ match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, 20 May.”

Angkrish Raghuvanshi has finished his IPL 2026 campaign after playing 13 matches. The young batter scored 422 runs in 12 innings at an impressive average of 42.20 and a strike rate of 146.52. He also registered five half-centuries during the season, with his highest score being an unbeaten 82 against Gujarat Titans.

KKR still in the race for IPL 2026 playoffs with one match left

Led by Ajinkya Rahane, Kolkata Knight Riders had a very poor start to IPL 2026. They failed to win any of their first six matches, losing five games while one match ended with no result. However, the team made a strong comeback later and has now won six of their last seven matches.

KKR are currently sixth on the points table with 13 points from 13 matches. To qualify for the top four, Kolkata must win their final game against Delhi Capitals. They will also need Rajasthan Royals to lose against Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings to lose against Lucknow Super Giants.

Even if PBKS win their final match, KKR could still qualify through a better net run rate. But if RR win their game, they will secure a place in the top four along with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
