Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels KL Rahul can be groomed as a captain of the Indian cricket team in the future. Gavaskar’s comment in the light of Virat Kohli announcing his decision to step down from the T20 captaincy post after the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.

The Indian skipper took to social media to share a statement informing his decision. He wrote, “After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October.”

India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is the front-runner to take the T20 captaincy. While there have been many speculations about the probable vice-captain, Sunil Gavaskar feels KL Rahul will be the perfect man for the job.

In an interaction with Sports Tak, Sunil Gavaskar opined that India can groom KL Rahul as the future captain by appointing him as the deputy now. He said

“It’s a good thing that the BCCI is looking ahead. It’s important to think ahead. If India are looking to groom a new captain, then KL Rahul can be looked at.
