Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has backed KL Rahul to score 200 in the ODI series against Australia in the upcoming series. India will be without Rohit Sharma in the ODIs and throughout the series after he was ruled out of the Australia tour. This gives Rahul an opportunity to open in all three games and Chopra believes that Rahul can score double ton if he opens.

The first ODI will be played on November 27 and it will be interesting to see if Kohli opens with Rahul. Meanwhile, in the absence of Rohit, Aakash Chopra said that Rahul is the best bet to open alongside Shikhar Dhawan. While Samson and Rahul are contenders for the opening slot, the likes of Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal can also open the batting with Dhawan.

All of Rahul, Gill, Samson and Agarwal scored runs for their respective franchises in IPL 2020 and have the form and the confidence along with them at the moment.

KL Rahul can score 200 vs Australia-Aakash Chopra

“My heart says that KL Rahul should open because the sort of player he is, he scores hundreds and in my opinion, if he plays very well he can even score a double hundred in ODIs. You have got to make him open if you want to do justice to his abilities,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s absence from the tour due to his injury has just added to the problems of Team India ahead of the start of the series. Though the team has good bench strength and is competitive without him, Rohit has been particularly good against Australia. His record in Australia is also something to be proud of as well.

As per recent reports, both of Rohit and Ishant who are not available for the series was not included in the initial squad that was selected for the Australia tour. This recent has just added to the confusion surrounding Rohit’s availability for the tour.
