KL Rahul, who led Team India at the Wanderers, has shared that incumbent captain Virat Kohli will available for the selection in the series-decider in Cape Town. The incumbent Test captain missed the Johannesburg Test with a back spasm.
Meanwhile, it was only in the 11th hour Virat Kohli copped up the injury blow and was ruled out of the entire Test. Hanuma Vihari replaced the talismanic run-scorer and made an instant impact, although, his contribution was not enough for India to seal a victory.
Speaking at the end of the game, KL Rahul revealed that Virat Kohli has begun training and is expected to be fit before the series decider.
“Virat is feeling better already, been in the nets the last couple of days fielding and running around and I think he should be fine,” KL Rahul said.
The stand-in captain also revealed that Mohammed Siraj, who suffered a hamstring injury during the second Test, will recover by the time the next match starts. However, even if Siraj fails to regain full fitness, India have the luxury of Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav waiting on the bench.
“Siraj is starting to feel better each day. A couple of days break might really help him. But we have quality on our bench as well, Ishant and Umesh are waiting,” KL Rahul added.
Ajinkya Rahane should make way for Virat Kohli – Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir, who was recently appointed as the mentor of the Lucknow-based IPL franchise, said that Hanuma Vihari should be slotted at No. 5 while returning skipper should continue to retain his No. 4 position.
“We have seen for a long time what performance Rahane has given. I believe when Virat Kohli comes in the next Test match, he bats at No. 4 in place of Rahane and Vihari bats at No. 5. It’s the right move and right direction going forward as well because if the team management has backed Rahane so much, the time has come to back Hanuma Vihari as much because he has looked very solid in both innings,” Gambhir concluded.
