India and New Zealand faced each other in the Super Six match played on 12th June 1999 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. In that match, Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin won the toss and decided to bat first. Ajay Jadeja was the top scorer for India with 76, contributions from Mohammad Azharuddin, Robin Singh and 29 each from Ganguly and Rahul Dravid helped India post 251 for 6.

Defending the target of 252 runs to win, Mike Horne scored 64. Roger Twose and Mike Horne partnership of 83 runs for the 4th wicket steadied the New Zealand innings. Twose remained not out on 60 and quick fire 26 off 14 balls helped New Zealand register a thrilling 5 wicket win with 10 balls to spare.
