India, one of the front runners to lift this trophy, has positively begun their T20 World Cup campaign by defeating their arch-rivals, Pakistan courtesy of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. The game was nail-biting as it went down to the last ball. Kohli scored 82* in the game, which helped the team to get across the line.
The openers of India failed to fire in this game. They were unable to create a foundation for the team. One of the concerns for India in this T20 World Cup is the form of their captain, Rohit Sharma, as per the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Ahead of the clash against the Netherlands, Gavaskar said that one of the concerns which need to be solved immediately is the form of the Indian skipper. Speaking to India today in an exclusive interaction, he said:
“The only concern really has been that Rohit Sharma of late has not quite scored with the same capability we know him to. I think if he gets going, it really makes people’s life really easy for people to follow.”
“A good platform is what everyone looks at. You give a good platform; a good start and it makes that much easier for somebody coming down at four or five to start hitting the ball from the first ball.

“They don’t have to give themselves time to settle in, they don’t have to give themselves time to steady the ship, like India had to do against Pakistan when they were four wickets down for 31. So, even if you get a slightly slower start, maybe get to about 40 after losing 1 wicket, that is a much better platform than 31/4,” Sunil Gavaskar further added.
Rohit Sharma has had an average outing in 2022 so far
Even though Rohit Sharma has scored over 500 runs at a strike rate of more than 140, his average has been subpar. In his new attacking approach, Sharma has given the team starts but has been unable to play long innings. He has crossed the 50 mark twice this year which is unlike him. A batter like him can consistently go beyond this mark with ease.
No one is unaware of his capabilities as a batter if he bats through the course of the innings. Sharma, who has four centuries in this format, needs to regain his groove so that the pressure from other players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav is reduced.
Fans will be hoping for him to score big against the Dutch so that he is in full flow against South Africa on Sunday.
