The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season has been a nightmare season for the most successful IPL team Mumbai Indians (MI). The five times IPL champions have lost eight consecutive matches since the start of the tournament. They are yet to win any game in IPL 2022.

The Mumbai franchise are facing heavy backlash on social media for their poor performance in IPL 2022. MI fans too are severely disappointed with the poor show of their team. Rohit Sharma penned down a tweet to apologise for the poor performance.

The 33-year-old cricketer appreciated fans for showing loyalty towards Mumbai Indians in a bad phase. Rohit Sharma also claimed that many sporting giants go through this tough phase. Taking to the microblogging website Twitter, Rohit Sharma wrote:

“We haven’t put our best foot forward in this tournament but that happens, many sporting giants have gone through this phase but I love this team and its environment. Also want to appreciate our well wishers who’ve shown faith and undying loyalty to this team so far.”

Mumbai Indians faced a crushing defeat against Lucknow Supergiants at Wankhede stadium. After being invited to bat first, KL Rahul led from the front which helped LSG post a target of 169 runs for MI. In reply to it, Mumbai never got momentum in their innings and lost by 36 runs.

Batters need to take responsibility and play long innings – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma blamed irresponsible shots for their loss against Lucknow Super Giants. Rohit believes that batsmen need to take responsibility and play long innings like the way KL Rahul played which unfortunately hasn’t happened for Mumbai Indians this season.

“We haven’t batted well enough in this tournament. Whoever plays in the middle needs to take that responsibility and go on to play long innings. Some of the opposition players have done that and that is what is hurting us. One guy needs to ensure that he bats as long as possible,” Rohit said after the loss.
