Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has fuelled the best Indian captain debate between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. While Dhoni has all three major titles as captain during his tenure Kohli is yet to win his first major trophy as captain. Ahead of the World Test Championship final, Vaughan has opined on who his best is among the two. India are currently topping the ICC rankings in Test matches. Under Dhoni India topped the ICC ranking as well during 2009-10.
Talking to The Cricketer, Michael Vaughan picked his choice between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli as the better captain between the two. Often, there have been talks regarding who is the better Indian captain between Kohli and his predecessor Dhoni. When Michael Vaughan, England’s former captain, was asked to name his choice, he gave an interesting reply.
Michael Vaughan Picks Between Dhoni, Kohli
“MS… MS, I think he’s the trailblazer, particularly in the white-ball and T20 game. He’s the best ever T20 captain by a good distance. I think what he brought to the Indian team was fantastic” Vaughan told The Cricketer.
Meanwhile, Vaughan picked Kohli as a better Test captain than Dhoni but chose the latter as a better captain overall.
“I would say that Virat is the better Test captain. Virat leads the Test team brilliantly so I would have Virat over MS in test cricket but in white-ball cricket is MS. But if you ask me for one… I had to only pick one across all formats, just as a captain, I would pick MS Dhoni,” Vaughan added.
The World Test Championship will be Kohli’s first major title if he wins it. Previously Kohli has led India to the 2017 Champions Trophy final and the 2019 ICC World Cup semifinal. Under him, India ended as the top-ranked side for the fifth successive year in ICC’s recent annual update.
