The debate on who is the best batsman in the world always has divided opinions. Several great batsmen today perform consistently in all formats. Steve Smith is undoubtedly the best in Test whereas Virat Kohli dominates in all three formats. The likes of Kane Williamson, Rohit Sharma and Joe Root also comes up when talking about modern-day greats. Recently, veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi revealed his pick as the best batsman.

Popular perceptions believe Kohli and Smith are the modern-day greats. While Smith pips over the Indian skipper in Tests, Virat Kohli is a masterclass when it comes to limited-overs. The talismanic run-scorer is the only batsman in the business to average over 50 in all formats.

On the other hand, Smith made a strong comeback after returning from his one-year ball-tampering ban last year. He had a solid campaign at the 2019 World Cup with 379 runs in ten games before taking the Ashes 2019 by a storm.

The former Australia skipper amassed 774 runs in just 4 matches to help Australia retain the prestigious Urn against England. As a result, he also leapfrogged Virat Kohli to occupy the top spot in the ICC Rankings.
