Mohammad Shahzad Reprimanded For Smoking In The Ground In BPL

Veteran wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad has been reprimanded for smoking at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on February 4 (Friday). Shahzad has been controversies favourite son and has found himself under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Several media outlets carried photographs of Shahzad smoking in the stadium while standing next to some other players. He has been sanctioned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

On top of that, one demerit point has also been added to Mohammad Shahzad’s disciplinary record as his action breached BCB’s code of conduct. Reportedly, the Afghanistan-born cricketer has flouted Article 2.20 which relates “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.

Shahzad was among the players who were walking around the ground before Minister Group Dhaka’s game against Comilla Victorians. According to the BCB’s press release, Shahzad admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Neeyamur Rashid and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Meanwhile, speaking about his performances, Mohammad Shahzad has had a mixed return so far in BPL 2022. He has so far managed only 120 runs in six matches which includes one half-century at a strike rate of 123.71.

Minister Group Dhaka are third on the table with seven points from seven games after Friday’s washout against Comilla Victorians. They play their next game against Chattogram Challengers in Sylhet on February 8.
