The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has halted the daily life including all cricketing actions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to postpone the Indian Premier League for an indefinite period. While the apex body is yet to rule out the T20 blitz, fast bowler Mohammed Shami believes it looks bleak.

The 13th edition of IPL was scheduled to commence from March 29 with defending champions Mumbai Indians facing Chennai Super Kings. However, with the Government of India imposing a complete lockdown, BCCI had initially postponed the tournament until April 14.

But with no signs of improvement, it was extended for an indefinite period. While BCCI hasn’t completely ruled out the prospect of hosting the tournament, Kings XI Punjab cricketer Mohammed Shami feels the future of IPL 2020 looks gloomy. Shami was speaking to journalist Vikrant Gupta where he discussed a lot of topics related to his personal life and cricket.

“I don’t think there will be time left to hold the IPL because the (T20) World Cup is also there and everything has stopped. IPL will have to be re-scheduled but looking at the current scenario, I don’t think the IPL will be possible,” Shami told India Today’s Sports Editor Vikrant Gupta.
