The former opening batsman of India Gautam Gambhir has credited MS Dhoni for backing Rohit Sharma during the initial days of his career. Incidentally, when Rohit made his debut in 2007, the world knew that he is a special talent. Then the captain of India MS Dhoni believed in him even when he was not scoring runs consistently.

GautamGambhir who was part of the Indian team back then revealed that the credit for Rohit Sharma’s rise should be given to Dhoni.R Rohit in his early days was batting in the middle order and was struggling for runs. Then skipper Dhoni took a chance and allowed Rohit to bat at the opening slot.

Since then the right-hand batsman has become an unstoppable force in white-ball cricket. In an interview with Sports Tak Gambhir said that captain MS Dhoni backed him to the core which has provided Rohit the confidence required to succeed in international cricket. Currently, the Mumbai cricketer is one of the most destructive batsmen in the business.

“Where Rohit Sharma is today, it is because of MS Dhoni. You can talk about the selection committee and team management, but if you do not have the backing of the captain then it is useless. Everything is in the hands of the captain,” Gambhir said.

“ How Dhoni backed Rohit Sharma over a period of time, I don’t think any other player has been given such support,” he added.

A few days back on Rohit Sharma’s birthday Gautam Gambhir wished him on Twitter and called him the best white-ball cricketer at the moment. Meanwhile, Rohit is currently out of action owing to an injury he sustained during the T20I series against New Zealand. He will be aiming to make a swift comeback considering that the ICC T20 World Cup looms large.
