Afghanistan’s leg-spinner, Rashid Khan is a spin wizard. Even the best in the world have failed to judge his googlies and have become victims of his mysterious deliveries. His ability to deceive a batsman is what makes him arguably the best leg-spinner in the world.
During the Qualifier match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, Rashid Khan rattled MS Dhoni’s stumps. Dhoni failed to read a wrong ‘un from Rashid and was lunging forward when the ball went through the huge gap between bat and pad and disturbed his stumps. Rashid Khan was thrilled to dismiss the big fish.

While speaking about that wicket, Rashid Khan said to Harsha Bhogle in a video for Cricbuzz,
“I bowled to him, I got his wicket. It was a dream for me to get the wicket of MS Dhoni. You know how good he is against the spinners.”
Rashid also narrated how Michael Hussey, CSK’s batting coach analyzed his bowling the day before the qualifiers. Hussey sent out a video to the CSK players, explaining Rashid’s bowling grips. He learnt that Rashid holds a wider grip while bowling leg-spin and a closer one while bowling googlies.

Rashid Khan also revealed that he doesn’t have much problem bowling different variations with different grips. Hussey’s advice didn’t prove to be useful for Dhoni, as he got bowled by Rashid’s wrong ‘un.
Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has also often praised Rashid Khan for deceiving the batsman with his deliveries. He said:
“Rashid is a world-class bowler. I’ve never played him but whatever I’ve seen & heard about him, the way he disguises his googly, very few batsmen can pick it. So, with a world-class bowler, you can never guess what ball he’s going.”
