The young batting sensation Prithvi Shaw has had a rollercoaster ride so far in international cricket. He has often drawn comparisons with the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar – whom he has idolised from his childhood days. However, the Mumbai star has downplayed all the comparisons during an Instagram Live chat on Delhi Capitals’ official feed.

Impeccable hand-eye coordination and footwork, Shaw has the tenacity to play long innings. Five years before his Test debut, Prithvi Shaw earned praise from Sachin Tendulkar when he created Harris Shield record by scoring 546 runs in an innings. Since then, a lot of waters have flowed by the ocean and Shaw took rapid strides to come up the ranks. He also led India to the ICC U-19 World Cups before making his international debut.

Prithvi Shaw made run-scoring look like a staple food for him and had an exceptional Test debut against. But the graph has gone down since then for the 20-year-old. Marred by injuries and controversies and ban, Shaw has had a tough time in the last one year. Finally, he made a return during the series against New Zealand but consistent low scores have earned him massive criticism.

Recently, Shaw said that he has his feet grounded and will come back stronger soon. However, he admitted that comparisons with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar put additional pressure on him but takes it as a challenge.

“There is pressure when people compare me to him. But I take it as a challenge. I try to play like him. He is the God of cricket,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw emulated Tendulkar when he scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut in 2016-17 season. He also scored a century on his Duleep Trophy debut in 2017-18 but he failed to repeat the feat in Irani Cup. So far, the Mumbaikar has played four Test matches along with three ODIs.
