The Rajasthan Royals have designated Shane Warne as their mentor and brand ambassador ahead of IPL 2020. The legendary leg spinner led the Rajasthan Royals to glory in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. On the occasion of Warne’s 51st birthday, the Royals franchise made the announcement across all their social media platforms.

Warne who is currently doing commentary duties during the England and Australia series will fly to UAE and join the Royals camp for IPL 2020. He will now team up with head coach Andrew McDonald in Royals backroom staff.

Rajasthan names Warne as mentor and brand ambassador

The Australian legend has always had a soft corner for Royals he was their first-ever captain. Even after his retirement from the game, he has time and time again served his beloved franchise. Warne is delighted to get on board with the Royals again whom he counts as a family and is excited to work with all the players of the franchise. 

 

“On my dual role, it’s always a great feeling to be back with Royals, my team, my family. It’s exciting to be working across all elements of this franchise that I love. We have worked towards our vision of becoming a global team that fans around the world love and follow,” Shane Warne was quoted as saying in a press release.

“This season I am looking forward to working as a Team Mentor and joining up with an excellent backroom staff in Zubin Bharucha and Andrew McDonald. Hopefully, we can have a successful season and achieve big things in the coming months”, Warner added.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan has not won another IPL title since the famous win in 2008 under the inspired leadership of Warne. Royals will begin their IPL 2020 campaign against the Chennai Super Kings on 22 September. The IPL this year will begin on September 19 and will run until till November 10 in the United Arab Emirates.
