Rashid Latif Disagrees With Rohit Sharma’s “Ashwin Is An All-Time Great” Comment

Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has stated that he disagrees with Rohit Sharma’s “Ravichandran Ashwin is an all-time great” comment. In the recent, India vs Sri Lanka, Mohali test match, Ashwin achieved a massive feat.

The off-spinner went past Kapil Dev’s wicket tally in Test cricket (434) to become the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the format. Only Anil Kumble (619) more wickets than Ashwin in the format for India. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma praised Ravichandran Ashwin as an “all-time great.”

“He is an all-time great in my eyes. He is playing for so many years and performed for the country. So many match-winning performances, so for me, he is an all-time great. People might have different point of views but from where I see, he is an all-time great for me,” Rohit had said.

However, Rashid Latif expressed his disagreement. In a video on his Youtube Channel, the former cricketer stated that Ashwin is a great bowler, but only in India. He said,

“Ashwin, no doubt, is a great bowler. He has brought variations to his bowling. If you look at Ashwin in home conditions with SG ball, no doubt he is the best spinner in India. However, in away conditions, I would not agree with his (Rohit’s) statement.”

Might have been a slip of tongue: Rashid Latif on Rohit’s comment about Ashwin

The former Pakistan cricketer further added that Anil Kumble, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bishan Singh Bedi have performed well than Ashwin overseas. He added, that Rohit Sharma’s statement might have been a slip of tongue. Rashid Latif said,

“Kumble was very good, he performed really well. Even Jadeja has performed really well. In the past, Bishan Singh Bedi was brilliant. If we talk only in India, no doubt he is good. I think it (Rohit’s statement) might have been a slip of tongue. It is a way of motivating the players.”

The Indian team will take on Sri Lanka in the second test match on March 12 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The test will be a Day and Night affair.
