Ravi Shastri Comments On Jasprit Bumrah’s Return To The Squad

Jasprit Bumrah is not to be rushed back into action prior to the ODI World Cup in 2023, as Ravi Shastri has issued a strong warning.

Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of the Indian cricket team, cautioned selectors not to hasten the injury recovery of star pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Although there was some hope that Bumrah would play again, he ended up missing the T20 World Cup, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

According to Ravi Shastri, India needs to handle Jasprit Bumrah with extreme caution

Bumrah hasn’t played a single game since September 2022.

In a recent conversation, Shastri stated that pushing his return for the ODI World Cup later this year could be detrimental to the team and the fast bowler.

“He (Bumrah) is an extremely significant cricket player. But if you rush him for the World Cup, you risk losing him for four months later, just like Shaheen Afridi.”

Therefore, there’s a fine line that needs to be considered, Shastri said in an interview with The Week.

“Hardik Pandya may take over as India’s white-ball captain after the ODI World Cup, according to Shastri, who also stated that he does not anticipate the all-rounder returning to Test cricket.”

“Let’s be honest. Test cricket is too much for his body (Hardik’s). I believe he ought to become the white-ball cricket captain following the World Cup. There is no doubt that Rohit should captain India at the World Cup.”

The former captain of India also addressed Ravichandran Ashwin’s recent remarks regarding the dressing room of the Indian cricket team.

“Colleagues were there for me every time. Coworkers will be your friends. I mean Ask anyone how many close friends they have, and they’ll all say 4-5. I’m happy having five close friends in my life. I don’t want more,” Shastri exclaimed.
