In a game which witnessed 400 runs scored from 40 overs, off-spinner Washington Sundar was the standout performer. His figures read 4-12-1 at the Dubai International Stadium. Although it mostly went unnoticed amidst the big batting performances, Team India head coach Ravi Shastri showered praise on Washington Sundar.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians game saw highest ever tied game in the history of IPL. Both teams finished on 201 before Virat Kohli & Co won the match in Super Over. The tournament has already produced a couple of nail-biting encounters and has the potential to provide more.

Batting first, cameos from Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal gave Bangalore a blistering start. Kohli’s poor run with the bat continued but AB de Villiers didn’t disappoint. He played another gem of a knock (55* off 24) to power Bangalore to 201. Shivam Dube also made a significant contribution with a 10-ball 27 run knock.

During the pursuit, Mumbai were out of the game till the 16th over before Kieron Pollard did a Rahul Tewatia. He smacked everything out of the park to collect 89 runs from the last five overs to tie the game. Ishan Kishan, who played his first game, also made a valiant effort scoring 99 runs from 58 deliveries including nine sixes.

Magical Spell from Washington Sundar

Navdeep Saini bowled a brilliant Super Over to contain Mumbai for seven runs before AB de Villiers’ magic took RCB home. Meanwhile, among all the notable batting performances, a brilliant spell from Washington Sundar went unnoticed. Where all the bowlers had an economy rate of 8 or more than that, Sundar finished the game with only 3.

However, it didn’t go past the watchful eyes of Ravi Shastri, who lavishly praised the young all-rounder.

“In a batsman’s world – from Chennai to Washington. Best IPL performance so far in 2020,” Ravi Shastri tweeted.
