After an woeful start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have handed back the captaincy reins to MS Dhoni. Incidentally, Dhoni has led the franchise since the start of IPL in 2008 only to relinquish his duties ahead of IPL 2022.

The 40-year-old cricketer handed over the reins to Jadeja, who was seen as the future of the franchise. However, the ace all-rounder has failed to live up to the expectations. While he has looked clueless under pressure, Ravindra Jadeja’s own game has also taken a hit.

In the wake of it, the 33-year-old all-rounder from Saurashtra has decided to step down from the role. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead Chennai for a larger interest and will remain as the captain for the remainder of the season.

“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” CSK announced on Saturday.

Chennai currently ninth in the points table

Chennai Super Kings had a disastrous start to their campaign losing a couple of games. However, they tasted a victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore before winning another game against five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Otherwise, it has been a pretty underwhelming season for the Super Kings.

CSK are currently ninth in the points table with only two wins in eight matches. Only Mumbai are below them with no wins in eight matches. The defending champions will play their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (May 1) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
