RCB Skipper Virat Kohli Sanctioned For Breaching Code Of Conduct

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has been sanctioned for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct during their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers have made a great start to the tournament winning their first two matches, and currently sit on top of the points table.

Virat Kohli seemed extremely frustrated after getting out after a well-played knock of 33 runs by Jason Holder. Television cameras picked up Kohli kicking an advertising cushion as well as a chair placed in the dugout on his way back to the dressing room. Incidentally, similar aggression shown by former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir in an IPL game against RCB in 2016 had seen him get docked 15% of his match fee.

Virat Kohli breached code of conduct

IPL Governing Council has sanctioned Virat Kohli following his conduct. The talismanic run-scorer has admitted to the Level 1 offence of 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been reprimanded for breaching the VIVO Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai,” IPL Governing Council said in a statement.

“Mr. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.

Speaking of the game, Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers held their nerves in the death overs to make it two out of two in a low-scoring thriller. Chasing 150 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad were cruising to victory with 96 runs for one at one stage. However, soon after the dismissal of skipper David Warner things started going downhill for the Orange Army.

Shahbad Ahmed silenced his critics with a three-wicket haul in one over giving away only one run to change the momentum in Bangalore’s favour before Harshal Patel took his side home with another brilliant performance. Speaking at the end of the game, Virat Kohli admitted that he is proud of the entire team and stated that they want to take one game at a time this time around.

“To be very honest, we are not over-excited with wins this season. We have clarity of plans. We traded Harshal from Delhi, gave him a specific role and he’s doing an outstanding job for us. We are taking one game at a time, we are enjoying playing with each other. Need to be professional and do the job on the field,” Virat Kohli said.
