Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting after his side beat three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings in their first game of the season. Chasing 188 to win, Delhi rode to victory on the back of Shikhar Dhawan’s 85 and Prithvi Shaw’s 72, They put up a 138-run opening stand which provided the platform for the likes of Rishabh pant and Marcus Stoinis to get the job done. It was Pant who hit the winning runs for his side as he made a winning start to his IPL captaincy.

Meawhile, Ricky Ponting applauded the brilliant team effort from his players and also praised their individual brilliant performances. Ponting has made Delhi a winning outfit since taking over the coaching role of the side in 2018.

Days after Delhi Capitals made an impressive start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2021, the official social media handle of the Delhi-based franchise opted to share Ponting’s motivating speech following his side’s gritty win over MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their campaign opener.

“The video you’ve been waiting for is here @RickyPonting’s first dressing room speech after a scintillating win against #CSK is giving us all the feels,” DC captioned their post on the microblogging site. Ponting’s dressing room for DC superstars soon became the talk of the town.

“Prithvi, it was awesome and you have got so much to learn from that one innings. You can go into the next game thinking about nothing, you will get runs again. So, you got plenty to learn from that innings, it was awesome,” said Ponting. 

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their second match of the IPL 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. The Royals lost a humdinger against Kings XI Punjab in their campaign opener despite skipper Sanju Samson scoring a valiant 119. In the process, he became the first batsman to score a ton on his first match as captain.
