Deepak Chahar scored his maiden ODI half-century as he kept Team India in the game in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Chasing 276 to win, India were reduced to 193/7 still needing 93 to win. Chahar then played the most important innings of his international career so far bringing out his best game when his team needed the most.
With Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the other end, Chahar stitched an unbeaten 84-run stand in partnership keeping India in the game right till the end. Set to chase 276, India lost wickets at regular intervals with the Sri Lankan spinners tightening the screws. Wanindu Hasaranga took three key wickets making the chase look difficult. The wickets of Suryakumar Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandey made the chase look impossible at the halfway stage but then Deepak Chahar had other ideas.
He started his innings cautiously and then got into taking on the Lankan bowlers. Chahar hit a total of seven boundaries in his innings. Meanwhile, Twitter was all praise for Chahar and even likened his innings to that of MS Dhoni who often finished games from tight situations for India. He ended with an unbeaten 69 in the end as India won the game by three wickets. On the other hand, Bhuvi also played his part scoring an unbeaten 19 in the partnership.
