Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting has shared an injury update of star fast bowler Anrich Nortje and his return date in IPL 2022. Meanwhile, there has been a lot of mystery around Nortje’s back and hip injury.
The Proteas seamer hasn’t played competitive cricket since the T20 World Cup last November. Anrich Nortje has arrived in India and has completed the mandatory quarantine and has been training with the rest of the squad.
Ricky Ponting reckoned that the 28-year old might be available from the next game. However, Nortje needs to get a fitness clearance from Cricket South Africa before he can feature in the DC line-up.
Addressing the press at the end of DC’s game against Gujarat, Ponting said:
“Nortje bowled a 100 percent this morning in the warm-up. So I think he is going to get through another 4-5 over spell at a 100 percent and then I think if he gets clearance from Cricket South Africa then he should be right to go.”
Incidentally, Anrich Nortje was retained ahead of Kagiso Rabada. He was one of the four cricketers retained by Delhi Capitals along with Skipper Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Axar Patel.
“He’s gonna be available for the game on the 10th” – Ricky Ponting on Mitchell Marsh
Meanwhile, dark clouds loom large over Mitchell Marsh’s participation in IPL 2022 with the Aussie all-rounder suffering a hip-flexor injury before the first ODI against Pakistan. Hence, he was ruled out of the four limited-overs games.
Ricky Ponting revealed that Marsh is expected to be available from April 10 while David Warner should be back in the next game.
“We are hoping for him that he’s gonna be available for the game on the 10th. You know he picked up that slight hip-flexor strain in Pakistan, so we need to get a lot of treatment work into him obviously a few good training sessions before he is available for selection, fingers crossed, Davey should be available for the next game and Mitchell Marsh the game after,” he concluded.
