Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant got to 100 catches in his Test career on day 3 of the Centurion Test. In the process, he broke MS Dhoni’s record who got to 100 catches in the format in 36 matches. Pant took 10 matches less than Dhoni to get to that feat. India meanwhile ended the day on the driver’s seat on a day that saw 18 wickets fall during the course of the day.

Rishabh Pant took four catches in the South African first innings and the catch to dismiss Kagiso Rabada was the 100th of his Test career. South Africa were bowled out for 197 in their first innings in response to India’s 327.

Mohammed Shami took his sixth five-wicket haul in Test cricket (5/44) after Lungi Ngidi took 6 for 71 during India’s first innings. The batting from both teams was below par on day three as the bowlers took centre stage.

All the 18 wickets on the day were shared by the pacers from both teams as the spinners bowled a few overs in between.

India at the end of the day lead by 146 with them being 16/1 at stumps. Addressing the post-match presser, Shami said that India would ideally look for a target between 350-400.

“Two days are left in the Test match, I feel we should be batting the maximum amount of time tomorrow. If we score around 250 runs and set a target of about 400 runs for South Africa we can then allow South Africa to bat for four sessions. But for that we need atleast 350 or 400 odd runs,” said Shami while replying to a query from ANI in the press conference.

Brief Scores: India 327 (KL Rahul 123, Mayank Agarwal 60; Lungisani Ngidi 6-71, Kagiso Rabada 3-72) & 18/1 lead South Africa 197 (Temba Bavuma 52; Mohammed Shami 5-44) by 146 runs
