India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Saurashtra, starting January 23 in Rajkot. However, there is still no confirmation on former India captain Virat Kohli‘s participation in the game.
After India’s 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, head coach Gautam Gambhir emphasized the importance of players featuring in domestic cricket. The BCCI had also instructed players to prioritize domestic matches unless injured or on national duty.
Speaking to PTI on January 14, DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma discussed Pant and Kohli’s potential involvement in the Ranji Trophy. He stated:
“Yes Pant has confirmed his availability for next Ranji game and will join the squad in Rajkot directly. About Virat Kohli we want him to play but we haven’t heard from him while Harshit Rana is selected in the T20 squad and hence is unavailable.”
Pant last played a Ranji Trophy match in the 2017-18 season, while Kohli’s last appearance in the tournament dates back to 2012. Both players have been included in Delhi’s probables for the rest of the season, but their final selection depends on their availability.

Reports suggest that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to play in the Ranji Trophy, while Rohit Sharma’s participation for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir on January 23 is uncertain.
Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli’s Performance in BGT 2024-25
Pant and Kohli had underwhelming performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Pant scored 255 runs in nine innings at an average of 28.33, with one half-century—61 off 33 balls in Sydney, featuring six fours and four sixes.
Kohli finished the series with 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75. The 36-year-old scored an unbeaten 100 in the second innings of the first Test in Perth but failed to score another half-century in his remaining nine innings.
