Young Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw has posted another cryptic message on social media, following reports that he was excluded from the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir on January 23.
Shaw’s form and fitness have been widely discussed, especially after he was left out of the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy following a disappointing performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The right-handed opener scored just 197 runs in nine innings, with a best of 49 against Vidarbha in the quarter-final.
In the face of ongoing criticism, Shaw responded with a cryptic message on his Instagram story:
“You can take me out of the game!! But you can’t stop me working …”

Prithvi Shaw missed the initial rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 due to fitness and disciplinary concerns. Despite recent poor form, the 25-year-old boasts an impressive first-class average of 46.02, with 4556 runs, 13 centuries, and 18 fifties in 58 matches.
“He must improve his work ethic”- Shreyas Iyer on Prithvi Shaw
Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer criticized Prithvi Shaw’s work ethic following their victory in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) final against Madhya Pradesh. Iyer expressed concerns over Shaw’s approach, urging him to reflect on his mistakes and make improvements.
Speaking to reporters after the win, via ESPNCricinfo, he said:
“He needs to get his work ethics right, and if he does that, the sky is the limit for him. We can’t babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past; it’s not that he hasn’t. He has to focus, he has to sit back, [and] put a thinking cap on, and then figure out himself. He will get the answer by himself.”
