India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant expressed relief over not having to face James Anderson and Stuart Broad anymore as the team prepares for the first Test against England in Leeds. While acknowledging their absence, Pant noted that England still possess a strong bowling attack.
This marks the first home summer in years for England without either Anderson or Broad. Broad retired after the 2023 Ashes, while Anderson played his final Test against the West Indies last year. When asked about their absence, Pant admitted it “feels good” not to see them in the opposition lineup, as quoted by India Today.
“Definitely, it feels so good when both (Anderson and Broad) are not there. Because coming from the last two tours, they’ve been there for England for so many years and I’ve only come for two tours. But at the same time, they have enough ammunition as an England bowling line-up.”
“We don’t want to take anyone lightly because our team is also young. They’re still looking to develop themselves. But at the same time, we’ve got to play our cricket and respect the bowlers and opposition where it needs it.”
“I Think Shubman Will Bat At No. 4” – Rishabh Pant Shares Team Insight
In the press conference, Rishabh Pant confirmed that he will be batting at No. 5, while Shubman Gill is set to take the No. 4 spot. The 27-year-old further stated:
“I think there is still discussion going on, who’s going to play at No. 3 but definitely 4 and 5 are fixed. I think Shubman is going to bat at No. 4 and I’m going to stick to No. 5 as of now, and the rest, we’re going to keep on discussing about that.”
India are aiming for their first Test series win in England since 2007.
