As another exciting season of Indian Premier League (IPL) commences, all eyes will be on Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. The youngster didn’t have a great 2020 so far and will be desperate to make a comeback. Ahead of the start of IPL 2020, Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting is confident that Pant will emulate his last season’s performance.
Incidentally, Pant had an impeccable time in IPL 2020 and played a key role as Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs for the first time since 2012. The southpaw knocked 488 runs in 16 games at an average of 37.53 and a strike-rate of 162.66.
Pant will emulate his last season’s performance – Ponting
But since the graph has gone down for Rishabh Pant. However, Ricky Ponting is sure that his ward is upbeat for another great season with the bat. He also said that the India international looked in prime touch in the training sessions.
“Pant, during the last week, has really turned the corner well and I would expect him to perform as well as he did last year,” Ricky Ponting said during the virtual press-conference.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals look one of the strongest contenders to win their maiden IPL trophy. They have a solid squad and have all the bases covered. Ricky Ponting also backed the statement and highlighted that the left-hand right-hand combination will be an advantage for them.
“We really have a balanced side. There is a lot of competition for middle-order slots. Rahane gives us more depth to our batting. Shikhar had as good a last season as anybody. Prithvi has been training very well. Shreyas has had his best 12 months for the Indian team.
We have Pant, Hetmyer and Alex Carey (both left-handers), which gives us a good mix of left-right combinations. We have our bases covered,” Ponting added.
Delhi Capitals will lock horns with Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020 opener at the Dubai International Stadium on September 20.
