Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has made predictions for Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2022, saying that Rohit Sharma not having a 600+ runs season could be a concern for them. The five-time IPL champions have a new squad in place and will hope to pull all strings together to deliver the required performance.

Incidentally, Rohit Sharma & Co failed failed to reach the playoffs last year and will hope to get back to winning ways. Going into another season, Chopra picked Suryakumar Yadav as the contender who could finish as the highest run-scorer for the Mumbai franchise.

Speaking on YouTube, Aakash Chopra said:

“Who can be the highest run-scorer? There are three big contenders here. Rohit Sharma is otherwise an absolute rockstar in white-ball cricket but he hasn’t scored too many runs for the Mumbai Indians. That is a bit of a concern. He hasn’t had a 600-run season. Ishan Kishan is another guy, they have bought him for 15.25 crores. The highest run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians this season is going to be Suryakumar Yadav even though he will miss the first match.”

Incidentally, Suryakumar Yadav will miss the first match as he is yet to get a fitness clearance from the BCCI. He is currently at the NCA nursing his thumb injury he suffered during the West Indies series.

Jasprit Bumrah will be the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai – Aakash Chopra

The 44-year-old cricket expert also predicted that ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah will finish as Mumbai Indians’ highest wicket-taker  without any challenge from any teammate.

“Highest wicket-taker – there is no competition this time. You don’t have Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult – you will see the bowling slightly weak. I am going with Jasprit Bumrah, new ball and the old ball, people will play him cautiously but the player has so much class that he will still pick up wickets,” Aakash Chopra concluded.

Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium.
