
Seasoned cricketer Rohit Sharma was honoured by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after announcing his retirement from Test cricket. The Mumbai native brought his red-ball career to a close on May 7, concluding with 67 Test appearances.
Throughout his Test journey, the 38-year-old accumulated 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, registering 18 fifties and 12 hundreds. While stepping away from the longest format, Rohit assured fans that he will continue to don the Indian jersey in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
He made the announcement through an Instagram story, stating:
“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”
On Tuesday, May 13, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to Instagram to share a series of photos showing him felicitating Rohit Sharma in honor of his retirement from Test cricket. Fadnavis accompanied the post with the caption:
“It was great to welcome, meet and interact with Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at my official residence Varsha. I extended my best wishes to him on his retirement from Test cricket and for continued success in the next chapter of his journey.”

Rohit Sharma Set to Rejoin MI for May 21 Clash
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) was paused by the BCCI for a week, starting May 9, and is now set to resume on May 17. Mumbai Indians (MI) will make their return to action on Wednesday, May 21, facing Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium.
This will mark Rohit Sharma‘s first match since his retirement from Test cricket. So far this season, the experienced opener has scored 300 runs in 11 innings, with an average of 30.00, a strike rate of 152.28, and three half-centuries.
