Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh’s absence in the second and third T20I against England left India with a weakened lower middle order. With the series tied, his return could be the boost India needs to bounce back in the 4th match.

Rinku Singh’s Absence and India’s Performance

Rinku Singh was sidelined due to a back spasm, missing two crucial matches. His absence was felt in the finishing stages, where India struggled to accelerate.

In the second T20I, India barely scraped through with a two-wicket win, thanks to Tilak Varma’s heroics. The third match saw Adil Rashid exploit India’s weaknesses, leading to a 26-run loss.

Indian fielding coach Ryan Cook confirmed that Rinku Singh has recovered and is available for selection in the fourth T20I. “Rinku Singh is fit. He will be ready to go tomorrow,” said the coach. Rinku’s comeback strengthens India’s lower order, providing much-needed firepower and stability in crunch situations.

Who Will Rinku Singh Replace?

Jurel replaced Rinku in the lineup but failed to capitalize on his opportunities, scoring only six runs in two matches. In the second game, he batted at No. 5 but couldn’t make a significant impact, and in the third match, he struggled to find momentum at No. 7; with Rinku back, Jurel is likely to be replaced.

Despite his success, Rinku faced limited chances under Gautam Gambhir’s mentorship, playing only 70 balls in IPL 2024. Shivam Dube offers all-round abilities but has been inconsistent, while Rinku is a proven finisher who lacks bowling skills.

Ramandeep Singh could be another alternative, offering a strong finishing ability and better seam bowling options than Dube. If Rinku replaces Jurel, India’s batting gets a boost.

Impact of England’s Bowling

Adil Rashid’s spin was India’s kryptonite in the third T20I. His variations trapped Indian batters, restricting their flow. Rinku Singh’s return provides India with a key player in the middle order, but the team management faces a tricky decision on whom to drop. With Adil Rashid proving to be a significant threat, India needs to counter spin effectively to secure a win in the 4th T20I.
