Veteran India batsman Suresh Raina recently compared star India opener Rohit Sharma to legendary wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni. Raina had showered praise on the star batsman and called him the next MS Dhoni of the Indian team. Recently, Rohit responded to the comments of Raina.

Rohit Sharma made his debut under MS Dhoni and has grown in stature under his leadership. The former India skipper backed the batsman from Mumbai which paid dividends and continues to do so.

There will be only one MS Dhoni – Rohit on Raina’s comparisons

Suresh Raina, who played under Rohit Sharma during the Nidahas Trophy, have seen MS Dhoni from close quarters. The Chennai Super Kings veteran compared Rohit to Dhoni and even said that he is the next Dhoni of Team India.

“I would say he is the next MS Dhoni for the Indian cricket team,” Raina had said on The Super Over Podcast. “I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time, he gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all,” he added.

MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, as humble as he is, downplayed all the comparisons. Lavishly praising MS Dhoni, the swashbuckling opener said it is difficult to emulate the former. He also said that this kind of comparisons are uncalled for as there will be only one Dhoni.

“Yes, I heard about that comment from Suresh Raina. MS Dhoni is one of a kind and nobody can be like him and I believe comparisons should not be made like that, every individual is different and has his strengths and weaknesses,” Rohit Sharma said.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma last turned up during the T20I series against New Zealand. He suffered a finger injury and subsequently missed the ODIs and Tests. He will next feature during IPL 2020, which will get underway from September 19 in the UAE. Mumbai Indians will look to defend the title and bring home their fifth trophy.
