The captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ruturaj Gaikwad, shared an intriguing insight about former skipper MS Dhoni, revealing his habit of staying up late on the night before a match to wake up as late as possible on game day.
Until last year, Dhoni served as the captain of CSK, guiding them to five IPL titles before passing the leadership to Gaikwad this season. Gaikwad, who joined the CSK squad in 2019, played a crucial role in their title victories in 2021 and 2023.
In 2021, Gaikwad clinched the Orange Cap by amassing 635 runs, including a century and four half-centuries. In a Twitter-shared video by a fan, Gaikwad was queried about an intriguing detail regarding Dhoni in an interview, and his response was:
“He sleeps very late at night prior to match day especially, and wakes up very late. And I picked it up actually in 2019 with the team and I asked about it and he said he doesn’t want to get up early and think when you have thoughts about the game.”
“So he prefers to sleep as late as possible and get up as late as possible. So that’s something I am trying to do as well.”
Dhoni holds the record for being the IPL’s most successful captain, with 133 victories in 226 matches. Last year, he became the first to lead a franchise (CSK) in 200 matches. In his 17th IPL season this year, at 42 years old, he continues to impress with an astonishing strike rate of 260.
Ruturaj Gaikwad recently scored a remarkable century in CSK’s most recent IPL 2024 match
Ruturaj Gaikwad recently achieved a remarkable century in CSK’s recent match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The 27-year-old remained unbeaten on 108 runs from 60 deliveries, guiding the team to a formidable total of 210/4 in 20 overs.
Despite his outstanding performance, LSG managed to pull off a historic run-chase in Chennai, securing victory by six wickets with three balls to spare. However, Gaikwad’s century marked his third in his IPL career, elevating his total runs for IPL 2024 to 349. As a result, he currently ranks second in the Orange Cap standings, trailing only Virat Kohli.
Despite Gaikwad’s consistent performance, CSK finds itself in fifth place on the points table, having secured four victories in eight matches. In their upcoming match against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, April 28, they aim to regain momentum and strengthen their title defence.
