Batting great Sachin Tendulkar has come out in support of the poor people amid the outbreak of pandemic coronavirus. The former India cricketer has donated Rs 50 lakh to the Chief Minister and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to fight out the deadly disease.

Since it broke out in China, the COVID-19 has taken away more than 24000 lives. China, Spain, Italy, and the United States of America are the most affected places in the world. In India also there have been more than 600 positive cases registered with the death toll touching almost 20.

The lockdown of workplaces and schools meant a large chunk of the people are without their minimum income struggling to provide a three-times meal to their families. As a result, many celebrities and sports personalities have come up to donate to help the needy.

After sportspersons like MS Dhoni, PV Sindhu, Hima Das and several others contributed to the cause, Sachin Tendulkar pitched in with Rs 50 lakh donation. The amount has been divided into two parts, with INR 25 lakh going into the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and 25 lakh into the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

“Sachin Tendulkar decided to contribute Rs 25 lakh each to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in his bid to join the fight against COVID-19. It was his decision that he wanted to contribute to both funds,” a source privy to the development, told PTI.

Previously, Sachin Tendulkar has time and again urged the citizen to stay at home and maintain social distancing from his social media platforms. Meanwhile, cricketers from Pakistan and Bangladesh have also come forward to fight out COVID-19 in their respective countries.
