Team India skipper Virat Kohli has often drawn comparisons with batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. It is said that Kohli has taken over the baton from Tendulkar and is taking Indian cricket to greater heights. Recently, the former India cricketer recalled his first interaction with Kohli during a candid chat.
In his 24-year-old career, Tendulkar remained the face of the Indian national team and he also played an instrumental role in India’s second World Cup triumph. Tendulkar, whose career spanned over two decades, has shared the dressing room with a host of superstar cricketers.
Sachin Tendulkar reveals his first interaction with Virat Kohli
Recently, Sachin Tendulkar recalled the memorable interaction with a young Virat Kohli at the Indian camp. For the unversed, a young Kohli was famously pranked by his teammates prior to his first interaction with the Little Master. Recalling the same interaction with Kohli on YouTube show LegendsWithUnacademy, the Little Master said that he was surprised when Kohli fell at his feet. Tendulkar said that Indian cricketers started laughing after they successfully pranked Kohli during his first-ever interaction with the Master Blaster at the Indian camp.
“I didn’t know what was happening. I asked him ‘what are you doing?’. Told him that there was no need for this and such things don’t happen. Then he got up and we looked at those guys, they started laughing,” Tendulkar recalled.
Meanwhile, this is the first time Sachin Tendulkar had opened up on his first meeting with Virat Kohli. However, the current India skipper has also spoken about it a couple of times and how the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Munaf Patel, and Irfan Pathan played a prank with him. Kohli was tricked into believing that new recruits at the Indian national camp had to seek blessings from Tendulkar by touching his feet.
“After getting selected, the initial two days the only thing I could think about is meeting Sachin in the dressing room in any way possible. And these people got wind of it because I had told that to someone,” Kohli had said to Gaurav Kapur in the show ‘Breakfast With Champions.’
