Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and a key wicketkeeper-batter for India, has rejoined the team following a finger surgery he underwent last month. As per reports from ESPNcricinfo, he had been recovering at Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence. While he has returned to the squad, it remains uncertain whether he will take up wicketkeeping duties in the opening match.
If he is not fully fit, Dhruv Jurel could step in as the designated wicketkeeper. Jurel previously kept wickets in place of Samson during the fifth T20I against England in February after Samson injured his finger while facing a delivery from Jofra Archer.
Samson and Parag’s Impressive IPL 2024 Stats
Samson had a stellar performance in the previous IPL season, scoring 531 runs in 15 innings across 16 matches. He maintained an impressive average of 48.27 and a striking rate of 153.46, with his highest score being 86. His five half-centuries helped him secure the position of the fifth-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Riyan Parag emerged as RR’s leading run-scorer last season, amassing 573 runs at an average of 52.09 and a strike rate of 149.21. His transition to the No. 3 batting position proved to be a game-changer, resulting in four half-centuries, with his best score being 84*.
RR’s IPL 2025 Campaign Schedule
Rajasthan Royals will commence their IPL 2025 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad on March 23. Following this match, RR will play two consecutive home games against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 30.
These matches will take place in Guwahati, which serves as RR’s second home venue in the IPL. With Samson’s return, RR will be looking to start their season on a strong note, provided he regains full fitness before the crucial opening fixtures.
